World today moving toward post-West era

Iran’s Foreign Minister Zarif said the world today is entering a post-West era in which international developments no longer take place in or by the Western countries.

Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif made the remarks in the ‘Dawn of Truth’ Conference which marks the anniversary of Ayatollah Khamenei’s second letter to the Western youth in 2015 where Iran’s Leader called on the youth of Europe and North America not to allow the brutality of ISIL to cloud their perception of Islam.

“Recently, Western countries have accepted that the current period has a special characteristic, which is a shift toward a post-West world order,” Zarif said. “This of course does not mean that the West is no longer important; rather, it means that for the very first time in the history of international relations, developments take place neither in nor by the West.”

Zarif went on to add, “what is important to note of this transition period is the diversification and multiplication of sources of power in a way that the power sources have now gone beyond financial sources.”

“One must not forget that portraying viewpoints can have an impact on the shaping of power and determining the course of international developments as well as the status of a country in international relations,” he stressed.

The Iranian top diplomat highlighted the significance of Ayatollah Khamenei’s letters, adding “today, Islamic terrorism has become a keyword in US president’s speeches, because they like to use this term as a framework to internalize their own leadership.”
“The current situation in global developments needs to be considered as a common global concern,” Zarif concluded.
