In a speech at a gathering of scholars in the city of Baalbek, Sheikh Mohammad Yazbek, head of the resistance group’s Sharia or religious council, said the US seeks to achieve by sanctions what it had failed to gain by war, al-Ahed News reported.
He said the US was behind wars, conflicts and bloodsheds in the region, including those against Lebanon, but stressed that the United States was defeated in the military actions against Lebanon and will be defeated in the economic war as well.
Lebanon is facing its worst economic and financial crisis, which has triggered anti-government protests and created domestic political tension between rival groups.
