“The Golan Heights airspace, east of the Jordan River, is closed to civilian flights above 5,000 feet,” Ynet reported.
The Israeli online daily added that the ban will stay until July 31.
The measure comes after Syrian air defense systems repelled late Monday an Israeli strike in southern Damascus. The strike injured seven Syrian soldiers and caused material damage, SANA news agency reported.
The European Union has added recently-appointed Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad to its sanctions blacklist, as Damascus has repeatedly said the Western restrictions come in clear disregard of international law and the UN Charter.
