Trump Condoles President Aoun, Stresses Participation in Lebanon Aid Conference

Lebanese President General Michel Aoun received Friday a phone call from US President Donald Trump who stressed he would attend the international aid conference organized by France after the deadly Beirut explosions.

“President Trump confirmed to Aoun that he would participate in the Paris conference, which French President Emmanuel Macron proposed to help Lebanon,” a statement from the Lebanese presidency office said.

The statement mentioned that Trump offered condolences to President Aoun, confirming dispatching three aid planes and voicing solidarity with Lebanon.

For his part, President Aoun thanked his US counterpart over his support, adding that this highlights the historical ties between the two countries.

On Thursday, Macron visited the Lebanese capital and walked through the destroyed streets and buildings. He said he would organize an international aid conference to garner immediate assistance for the Lebanese people

Lebanon has been in mourning as Beirut was ravaged by the two massive blasts which rocked its port, killing at least 150 people and injuring more than 5,000 others. Dozens have been also still missing.
