Diab: Lockdown Aimed at Avoiding Collapse of Health System

On the eve of the two-week lockdown aimed at curbing the sharp increase in the coronavirus cases in Lebanon, caretaker premier, Hassan Diab, on Friday urged the citizens and all the residents to prioritize life and health over the economy.

“Tomorrow, the country will begin a nationwide lockdown aimed at avoiding the collapse of the health system and protecting ourselves and our people, ” Diab said in an address to the nation.

“The lockdown is not a solution per se. It is an opportunity to raise the country’s health sector preparedness in light of the dramatic surge in coronavirus infections over the past weeks,” he added.

Diab also reassured that competent governmental institutions are exerting utmost effort to obtain the vaccines as soon as possible, urging citizens to abide by the anti-coronavirus measures.
