During the meeting, former Iranian ambassador to Lebanon and Jordan, Ahmad Dastmalchi said political necessities have brought Saudi and Iraqi closer to one another.
“Mohammad bin Slaman seeks the throne and for the same reason, he wishes to see the internal and external Saudi situation in calm,” he said,
The expert noted that while bin Salman seeks to modernize his country as a consolation for a discontented young generation, he has already presented a violent face in Iraq, Yemen, Syria, Lebanon and Bahrain.
“The US authorities have pressed Saudis to mend the violent face,” he suggested.
“Iraq, for its part, the expert noted, needs to leave behind the ISIS era and put on a new face,” Dastmalchi said, touching on Moqtada Sadr’s visit t Saudi last week. “Iraq needs to present a nationalistic, youthful face, something apparent in Sadr’s current,” he said, suggesting that Sadr’s visit was accorded by the government of Iraq.
The expert also suggested that Saudi may offer to mend ties with Iran, adding however that Saudis seek to divide Shia groups.
