Lebanese Minister Discusses with Syrian Authorities Cooperation to Enhance Return of Syrian Refugees
Lebanon’s caretaker minister of social affairs, Ramzi Musharafiyeh, discussed on Sunday in Damascus with the Syrian foreign minister, Faisal Al-Mokdad, the cooperation between the two countries to enhance the return of the Syrian refugees in a voluntary and safe way.
Musharafiyeh stressed that Lebanon’s economic crisis prioritizes the refugees file, indicating that the Syrian authorities are cooperative in this regard.
For his part, Al-Mokdad emphasized that Syria welcomes the return of all its nationals to their homeland, adding that that the Western governments politicizes this file.
It is worth noting that around 1.5 million Syria refugees have flocked into Lebanon since the beginning of the Syrian crisis in 2011, overburdening Lebanon’s economic situation, infrastructure and the public services system.
