Over 40 Syrians Died in Beirut Port Blasts: Embassy

More than 40 Syrians have died in the massive blasts which rocked Beirut last Tuesday, the Syrian Embassy in Lebanon said Saturday.

“As of now the number of Syrians who died as a result of the explosion has reached 43. This number is not final”, the embassy wrote on its Facebook page. In this regard, the embassy affirmed that it “will continue exerting the necessary efforts in coordination with the concerned authorities in the sisterly Republic of Lebanon to search for the missing, and confirmed that this issue receives direct attention from the Syrian leadership, which directed the embassy to provide all forms of assistance.” The embassy also expressed its deep condolences to the families of the Syrian and Lebanese martyrs, and hoped a speedy recovery to the wounded of the two brotherly countries. Late on Tuesday, a powerful blast shook port of Beirut, killing over 150 people and injuring some 5,000, as well as causing major damage to a lot of the city’s buildings.
