Iran Condemns Any Attack on Diplomatic Missions

Iran’s Foreign Ministry’s spokesman condemned any attack on foreign diplomatic missions after a roadside bombing reportedly targeted a diplomatic convoy in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad.

Saeed Khatibzadeh made the remarks on Thursday in reaction to reports that a roadside bombing has targeted a convoy of diplomatic vehicles in Baghdad. The Iranian spokesman condemned any attack or assault against diplomatic missions. He pointed to cases of attacks on Iran’s diplomats and diplomatic sites in Iraq, calling on the Iraqi government to intensify and step up the protection of diplomatic places and guarantee the normal activity of diplomatic missions in that country. On Tuesday, an improvised explosive device targeted a British Embassy vehicle returning from Baghdad airport, an Iraqi security official said. The attack, the first against a British government vehicle in Iraq in more than a decade, took place just outside the capital’s high-security Green Zone that houses the British Embassy and other diplomatic missions. The same official said two Katyusha rockets, meanwhile, targeted the US Embassy inside the premises. The projectiles were reportedly shot down by an interceptor mechanism that has been installed at the compound. Source: Iranian Agencies
