Iranian Officials: Morocco Normalization of Ties with ‘Israel’ Betrayal

Iranian officials denounced Morocco over establishing full diplomatic relations with the Zionist entity, describing such move as a “betrayal” to the Muslim Ummah (nation) and the Palestinian cause.

In a message released on Friday evening, Secretary-General of the World Assembly of Islamic Awakening Ali Akbar Velayati denounced the normalization of Morocco-Israel ties as “treason”, dubbing the move as “a result of a bargain among the US, Morocco, and the Zionist regime.” The North African kingdom “has stabbed Palestine in the heart and has sold the dignity of Muslims to the international Zionism,” Velayati said, as quoted by Tasnim news agency. For his part, adviser to Iran’s parliamentary speaker Hossein Amir Abdollahian stressed that the Zionist regime “definitely has no place in the future of the region.” In a tweet, the Iranian official said: “Morocco announcing normalizing relations with the fake entity occupying Jerusalem is a betrayal and a stab in the back of Palestinian resistance.” Morocco and the Zionist entity agreed on Thursday to normalize relations in a US-brokered deal, making Morocco the fourth Arab country to make such move in the past four months. As part of the agreement, US President Donald Trump has agreed to recognize Morocco’s sovereignty over the Western Sahara, where there has been a decades-old territorial dispute with Morocco pitted against the Algeria-backed Polisario Front.
